Real Life Game
In the last several years there has been a huge switch in television programming from scripted situation comedies to reality television shows. People seem to want more surprise and drama from their television shows and situations of carefully crafted drama seem to fill the void television audiences have been feeling. The other genre of television show that has been asked to alter their approach in the wave of reality shows is game shows. Audiences are no longer interested in how many questions someone can answer in 60 seconds, they have become infatuated with how long people can survive on a deserted island before they start to turn on each other and the situations can become quite volatile.
Reality TV games have become extremely popular and while you can put shows such as Big Brother and Fear Factor in a category of shows that all owe their success and continued life to the first reality TV game show Survivor.
When Survivor debuted it instantly became an international hit and the contestants that were put in dangerous situations all for the possible reward of winning a million dollars became television stars. People believe in the reality of Survivor and that can be a blessing and a curse at the same time. People believing in the reality of Survivor is what allows the show to remain on the air all of these years later but it is this belief in the reality of Survivor that has haunted some of its contestants since they appeared on the show.
When a contestant is on Survivor they are asked to do whatever they have to do to survive the game and win a million dollars but when the whole world is watching what you do to win a million dollars you may wind up doing things that many people may not appreciate and suddenly people all over the world hate a contestant because of the decisions they have made while on the show. It is the risk people take when they audition to be on the most popular reality TV game show in history.
